Complete Coach Works Delivers Final Remanufactured Bus to Josephine Community Transit

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW) announced today it has made the final delivery to Josephine Community Transit (Josephine). The project included supplying and rehabilitating two 35ft Gillig buses.

The project supports the City of Josephine and its efforts to enrich the passenger experience.  The work was completed at CCW’s headquarters in Riverside, CA. The job specifics included the installment of Cummins ISL Recon engines and rebuilt Allison transmissions. CCW also installed new floorings, ADA wheelchair ramps, driver seats, as well as updated interior and exterior LED lighting. In addition, the buses were painted a sleek and stylish blue to reflect Josephine’s branding.

“The buses look remarkable, just like brand new buses,” said Regional Sales Manager at CCW, Jim Paul. “These vehicles were not only economically convenient for Josephine Community Transit, but also helps sustain the environment for future generations.”

The rehabilitated buses are an efficient approach to acquire and extend the useful life of the buses well beyond the usual life expectancy, while at the same time saving a substantial amount of money. The cost of a rehabbed bus is a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new bus. The vehicles also enhance safety and offer improved vehicle reliability for years to come.

Scott Chancey, Transit Manager at Josephine Community Transit stated, “The delivery of these vehicles allows us to transition to larger heavy-duty transit vehicles at quicker than anticipated pace. This transition is critical for us to consistently provide good transit access through the urbanized areas of Josephine and Jackson County.”

“We are excited and honored to have been selected for the Josephine project. We value their business and relationship and look forward to the opportunity of working together again in the future. We are happy to be a part of the continued evolution of transit,” said Jim.

Complete Coach Works Receives Contract for Remanufactured ZEPS 100% Battery- Electric Buses from Twin Transit

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW) is pleased to announce its contract to convert two, 2004 35′ Gillig buses into Zero Emission Propulsion System (ZEPS) buses for Twin Transit in Centralia, WA.

CCW takes previously used, internal combustion engine buses and remanufactures them into like-new vehicles containing ZEPS all-electric drivetrain systems. ZEPS is an integrated technology tested for more than 4 million miles of revenue service.
Each ZEPS vehicle will feature a 180KW electric PMS motor and controller. The motor and controller are designed to handle heavy duty drive cycles and provide high torque and top speeds. The ZEPS buses will also include a 403kWh battery pack and battery management system. In addition, a new electrically driven air compressor, electrically driven power steering pump, and new lightweight roof-mounted HVAC system will be added.
The ZEPS battery-electric buses will replace current buses in Twin Transit’s fleet to further improve the nation’s air quality environment. In addition to providing invaluable public health and environmental benefits, ZEPS delivers financial benefits, including substantially reduced maintenance costs and reduced fuel costs.

“Twin Transit has worked toward integrating green technologies for a long time. To see that dream becoming reality is truly fantastic,” states Andrea Culletto, Twin Transit’s Community Relations Director.

“In 2018, Twin Transit offered its riders free trips between the Twin Cities in an effort to engage the public and gather feedback on electric buses. Complete Coach Works provided Twin Transit with a ZEPS bus for the demonstration,” states Jim Paul, Northwest Regional CCW Sales Manager. “The ZEPS bus was well received by Twin Transit and its riders. We are thrilled Twin Transit has given us the opportunity to provide its riders with familiar safe and reliable transportation.

“Complete Coach Works is wonderful to work with. They are great partners, integral to helping us realize the vision of a more sustainable future,” stated Andrea. Complete Coach Works continues to advance the industry with its multiple deployments throughout the United States. “Twin Transit will be a great addition. We look forward to the completion of this project,” states Jim.

Complete Coach Works Becomes the First to Offer Retrofits for Wheelchair Charging Stations

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW), a leading innovator in heavy-duty electric transportation, announced today it will offer retrofits to allow ADA passengers to charge their wheelchairs at each tie down location in the bus.

CCW is committed to serving the transportation industry with innovative advanced technologies. From the introduction of the Zero Emission Propulsion System (ZEPS) all-electric transit bus, first produced in 2012, to its newly developed HVAC system which has successfully proven to perform in the harshest environments, CCW recognizes the unique needs of its customers.

This upgrade will be available to all types of buses. It includes an installation of plug outlets at each wheelchair tie down station allowing riders to plug in their cords and charge while riding the bus. The key advantage to the charging station is to provide ADA riders with better accessibility and offering them a bit more power to reach their destination.

“We are relentless in pursuing innovative options for the growth of our customers. This unique retrofit will allow agencies to offer riders who use wheelchairs or scooters an opportunity to charge en route,” said Brad Carson, Director of Sales and Marketing at CCW.

Wheelchair charging stations will give riders the assurance needed to navigate the city freely. In addition, the charging stations will enhance wheelchair reliability and drive range allowing users to go a further distance. This retrofit will pave the road for other agencies to notice the benefits of adding wheelchair charging stations to their buses.

“We are excited to offer our customers another option to increase ridership. ADA bus travelers will now have a sense of security and confidence to be independent in their communities,” states Brad.

Complete Coach Works Announces Award to Provide a Refurbished Gillig Bus for Lane Transit District

RIVERSIDE, CA – Complete Coach Works (CCW) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $275,000.00 contract to provide a refurbished 40-foot Gillig transit bus for Lane Transit District (Lane Transit).

“Operating a refurbish bus reflects the district’s commitment to sustainability and to responsibly steward the tax dollars it receives from the community,” said Aurora Jackson, Lane Transit’s General Manager. “We look forward to a CCW refurbished 40-foot Gillig safely and comfortably transporting riders commuting aboard the LTD sponsored Diamond Express to and from Oakridge, as well as the rest of the metro area.”

By purchasing a remanufactured bus, Lane Transit will receive a fully renovated bus for about half the cost of a new bus. Depending on its condition, a transit bus can cost $275,000.00 to refurbish compared to approximately over $500,000.00 for a brand-new bus. A complete restoration is not only cost-effective, but a retrofit bus takes a fraction of the time to deliver in months not years. Refurbished buses are easier to process as parts and staff are immediately available.

The bus will be equipped with a Cummins ISL Recon engine and rebuilt Allison B400R transmission. CCW is performing a multitude of specialized services to the bus, such as an upgrade to the bus cooling system, with the installation of a new all-electric cooling package. Other services CCW is providing includes replacing of suspension components, replacing of all wear items, installing new floors, rebuilding windows, and updating all original lighting to a modern LED system.

The refurbished Gillig transit bus will be a welcome reliable addition to Lane Transit’s fleet. Choosing a refurbished bus is a highly economical choice for managing fleet age as it relates to ridership growth. “It is a privilege working with Lane Transit. We are confident that they will be very proud of their new refurbished bus,” stated Regional Manager of CCW, Jim Paul.
